Great Falls Basketball Youth Leadership Scholarship

At Great Falls Basketball, we are deeply committed to fostering the growth and development of our youth. In 2015, we established the Matthew Poyner Youth Leadership Scholarship as part of our ongoing efforts to support participants in our program in their higher-level educational pursuits. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to college-bound high school seniors in our program, helping to ease the financial burden of their first year of college.
This scholarship is named in honor of Matthew Poyner, who tragically passed away unexpectedly in his sleep in 2015. Matt was a cherished member of the Great Falls community and a student at Langley High School. He was a young man of remarkable intellect, matched only by his deep empathy and kindness toward others. People were naturally drawn to Matt’s infectious optimism and zest for life. His dedication to his studies, family, friends, and community left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Matt was also a strong advocate for giving back, contributing his time and energy to Great Falls Basketball as a player, referee, and coach. It is for these qualities—his leadership, service, and compassionate spirit—that we have chosen to honor him through this scholarship.
The Matthew Poyner Youth Leadership Scholarship will be awarded to up to four deserving seniors. Any high school senior currently involved in our program as a player, head coach, assistant coach, referee, statistician and clinic participant is eligible to apply. The scholarship will recognize those who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and involvement within the GF Hoops community.
